Buzios Golf Club in the state of Rio de Janeiro
Buzios Golf Club is the only golf course in Brazil designed by the legendary Pete Dye. Dye is known for designing difficult courses with undulating fairways. It’s no different in Buzios. The fairways are located on a narrow peninsula and are exposed to relentless winds. Which not only causes the balls to change direction mid-flight. But also forces players to think twice before taking a club out of the bag. When you least expect it, you’ll need your 5-wood, which could normally reach the green with a pitching wedge.
The Course of the Buzios Golf Club
The course of the Buzios Golf Club is relatively flat with dense vegetation on the edge of the fairways. Water comes into play on many holes, and it becomes dangerous when some of the fairways slope towards the water. The signature hole is 17, a short par 3 with an island green.
Leisure in Buzios
If the winds make your game too complicated, you can go to one of the 25 beaches in the city and enjoy life. Buzios became world-famous thanks to movie star Brigitte Bardot. She was a regular visitor in the 60s. Afterward, take a stroll in the city center down Rua das Pedras Street where the main restaurants and stores are located. You can also savour a drink by the shore at sunset, sitting beside the statue of Brigitte Bardot. Which will surely help you forget about the winds and clear your mind so you can face the course once again on the following day.
Airport Buzios
Buzios is one of the few coastal towns that has its airport; helicopters, air taxis and larger business jets can land and take off here. Umberto Modiano Airport has an asphalt runway 1,300 meters long and 30 meters wide and has night markings and a permanent fuel supply.
