Santapazienza Golf Club at Fazenda Santa Pazienza
The Santapazienza Golf Club at the Fazenda Santa Pazienza is in Itatiba in the northwest of the state capital, Sao Paulo. It was built in 2015 by Tom Fazio and his son. Since the golf course is on private property, it is only possible to play there with the permission of the owner’s family.
According to Tom Fazio, the land is spectacular, with water features, old trees and large differences in altitude. With the freedom and size of the property, a golf experience could be created that is unparalleled in the world.”
The course design
The Fazios have pulled out all the stops to make this layout as visually appealing as possible. For example, as you stand on the 217-yard third tee, your eye is drawn to the stream that cascades over small waterfalls to the right of the putting surface before emptying into the lake in front of the green.
After teeing off on the par-4 5th, the cart path to the next tee leads straight toward a lake – which at first looks like an impending disaster – but a sturdy dam continues just below the surface, giving other golfers the impression that you drive across the water. This is just one example of the extraordinary lengths that the Fazios and the owner went to to hide Santapazienza’s cart paths.
On the back nine, the 212-yard par 3 12th is probably the most memorable on the map. Here, the tee shot drops nearly 100 feet from the tee over a ravine to an elevated, two-level green that tapers to the left, with a front bunker providing additional protection on this side of the hole.
The round at Santapazienza ends with a steeply downhill par 4 where the tree-lined fairway slopes to the right of the tee.
Finally, there is also a lake looming on the right side and a huge bunker guarding the left side of the hole. So be sure to aim straight and accurately to avoid sand and water on the home hole.
