To the delight of golfers, the beautiful course of Iberostar Praia do Forte, Bahia – Brazil is reopened in July 2019, after undergoing field improvements designed by architect PB Dye and opened in 2007.
Remodeling of the second nine holes
The Iberostar Praia do Forte Golfcourse is a Par 72 – 18 hole golf course with a total length of 6817 yards. From most of the holes, the player can see until the ocean. The most beautiful holes are the last three, stretching along the beach. These finish holes and also the other holes of the second nine holes were remodeling. From the first nine holes, only the first and the tenth hole close to the headquarter also got recovering.
Zeon Zoysia grass, lower maintenance, and less water
The works were supervised by the new golf director David Myers. Before, David was working at the Clube de Campo in Sao Paulo. For the correct planting from the more resistant Zeon Zoysia grass, the agronomist Daniel Tapia was taking care. Now all the reformed holes ((1 and 9, 10 to 18) have a more tolerant grass against long sunny days and saltwater. The Zeon Zoysia grass needs low maintenance and much less water.
All 18 holes open for hotel guests and green fee players
Although holes 2 – 8 are not yet renovated, all 18 holes are currently open for hotel guests and green fee players. The fairways of these seven unrenovated holes are damaged. But the topography with numerous natural obstacles and lots of sand around the edges of the holes, make the course a challenge for all players. The golf course includes 100 hectares of dunes with impressive views of the Atlantic Ocean. The possibility of recovering the remaining holes is now under consideration.
The Iberostar Praia do Forte Golf & Spa Resort
The Iberostar Praia do Forte Golf & Spa Resort includes two 5-star hotels. The 632-room Iberostar Bahia opened in 2006, and the 536-Iberostar Selection Praia do Forte, opened in 2008 bedrooms. Both hotels are operation with all-inclusive-system.
