After 112 years golf came back to Olympia in 2016. The Olympic committee of Rio de Janeiro decided to construct a new Championship Golf Course. Nine renowned golf designers, like Gary Player Design, Greg Norman with Lorena Ochoa, Martin Hawtree, Jack Nicklaus with Annika Sorenstam, Tom Doak Renaissance Golf, Gil Hanse Design, Robert Trent Jones Junior and Thomson-Perret Golf Course Architects with Karrie Webb were in the final of the designer competition. In the end, Hanse Golf Course Design designed the Olympic golf course.
