Especially in March 2019 the Austrian golf and travel journalist Regina Dvorak made an inspection trip to Brazil. Her first station was Foz do Iguassu.
The Iguassu waterfalls should be included in any Brazilian trip
Foz do Iguassu – a name that more than any other stands for the longing for the Brazilian natural beauties. The breathtaking waterfalls are almost unique and very worth seeing. On any trip to Brazil, this imposing spectacle should be part of the itinerary. But in addition to the obligatory excursion to the Cataratas, which are spectacular on both the Brazilian and on the Argentine side The area around Foz do Iguassu offers numerous sights and leisure activities. Excursions to the Itaipu dam, the impressive San Ignacio mission or the Wanda mines are just as much part of it as the huge amusement park, the bird park, the secret falls, skydiving or helicopter flights.

However, if you stay at the beautiful Wish Golf & Convention Hotel, you are quite tempted not to leave the resort at all. Voted best Brazilian resort, no wish remains unfulfilled. Spacious and extremely well-thought-out, it lies close to the airport, the city center and – of course – the waterfalls in the Iguazu National Park. But the best part is the 18 holes par 72 Golf course by Erik Larsen.
The Iguassu Falls Golfclub
The Iguassu Falls Golf Club is directly connected to the hotel and is an ingenious recreational course. Wide, generous fairways, which offer an appropriate challenge through strategically placed bunkers and a huge beautiful lake, which is part of the game quite often, characterize the course. There are also relatively small greens, which, like the whole place, are perfectly maintained. Therefore the golf course gets its unmistakable character through the beautiful views, the palm trees and varied plants, the large lake with the fountain in the middle and, above all, the bunkers, which are visually unique with their red sand.
The lake is part of the game straight from hole 2 on, a short par 4. Hole 3 is a very strategic hole with a double fairway that, played on the right side, avoids the dangerous green bunkers. The green of the following beautiful Par 5 is almost completely surrounded by water and accordingly tricky. Hole 7 is a great downhill par 3, while hole 8 with its narrow fairway for an uphill par 5 is reasonably difficult. The second nine are characterized by their challenging lengths and strategic possibilities. On Hole 18 you can breathe deeply and just enjoy. This short Par 5 offers a magnificent view of the beautiful Iguassu clubhouse, which is located next to the main section of the hotel.
The hotel in the Wish Resort
The hotel is an attraction in itself. Many small villas, most with private pools, surround the main house with its exclusive, charming restaurants and large pool area. Everything is generous and thoughtful. The resort is extremely kid-friendly (and by the way also pet-friendly), without disturbing the guests who travel without family. Own, quite remote, suites, rooms, and villas surround a large playground, the offer for families is correspondingly huge. The main house is very bright, full of light and extremely friendly. Many cozy corners, terraces, and places invite you to unwind, have a drink or just enjoy yourself. Which you also can do excellently in the three different restaurants of the resort.
The “Golf Grill” is the main restaurant with a fabulous breakfast buffet. “Forneria di Como”, extremely delightfully furnished, offers Italian food at the highest level. Fabulous meat is served in the Argentine-style “Frontera Sur”. Given this exuberant, exclusive and varied offer. It is almost a pity to devote yourself to the rooms and suites. Since experience shows that there is hardly any time to enjoy them properly.
Extremely helpful concierge service
Nevertheless, it should be noted briefly that also here no wish remains open. They are all large, spacious and beautiful, from the bathrooms over the beds to the small terraces and intimate pools. And on the subject of perfect service. Please note the following anecdote: Should your phone give up after the waterfall boat tour. A short demand for a paperclip to save the sim card at the excellent concierge service is enough, to receive a Champagne bucket with uncooked rice on the Room. Unasked. While staying at the Wish Resort the breathtaking waterfalls, the great area and the wonderful golf impression will make your journey an extremely special experience.
